What We Do for parents?

At Hands-On Heads we help you build a connection with your child, to last a life time.

We know that all parents want what is best for their child and so, we empower you to get hands-on and feel confident in your role as your child's first teacher.

Our sessions show you simple, Hands-On learning activities you can do to engage and have fun with your child. We show you how to use equipment you have in your own home and why these activities are beneficial to your child's early learning.

We focus on helping children develop into well-rounded individuals by encouraging learning across all areas from developing their vocabulary, early numeracy skills, fine motor and gross motor movement, all through a medium of song, rhyme and role play.

We are passionate about children having fun, learning through natural discoveries and play, and we want you to share these experiences with their child.

HOH is an exciting, fun-filled and educational session for my daughter and for me! It’s great to learn new ideas of how to entertain my 3.5 year old using things we have on hand at home, and teach her new skills in the process.
 

Why it's important to be Hands-on?

The quality of a child’s earliest environments and the availability of appropriate experiences at the right stages of development are crucial to brain development and the foundation for learning in later life (AEDC- Brain Development in Children).

Our vision is to improve the learning outcomes for children aged 1-5 years by empowering parents to get Hands-On, play with their child/children and feel confident that they are helping build solid foundations in early literacy and numeracy, social and emotional well-being, creativity and problem solving. 

It’s unlike any other class I’ve been to with this age group and I love the creativity and playfulness involved as well as the developmental learning and progression that’s incorporated.

THE founder- Who is she? and What would she know?

Rachel is an experienced Primary School teacher and mother of two. Rachel founded Hands-On Heads to achieve her goal of providing age specific programs that incorporate early education specialist knowledge to help bridge the gap between parents and teachers. She wants to see children start their school journey with their best foot forward!

“My aim is to show parents realistic and achievable, hands-on activities that support their child's early learning, using equipment that is accessible and affordable. Hands-On Heads covers all the important learning areas to help young children develop into well-rounded individuals. And this is all through a medium of fun, enjoyment and incidental learning. I have seen first hand the number of children who arrive to start kindergarten without some of the key skills to set them up for success in their formal education journey. These key skills are not about academic merit, but rather a child's social, emotional and physical wellbeing. These key areas lay the foundations for a child's 'readiness' to learn. I want to help parents ensure their child starts their formal education ready to learn, grow and have fun."

We take a holistic approach to early learning by ensuring our classes work on developing your child’s social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive learning. We are a one stop HANDS-ON shop!

Our sessions are a space where children can be social, engaged and excited about the world around them. They are facilitated by staff that are trained in early childhood and/or primary education. Our program is structured with reference to the Key Learning aspects for 0-5 year olds, as outlined by the Australian Government's startingblocks.gov.au and The Early Year's Learning Framework (EYLF).

We believe in giving the power back to parents and helping them feel confident that they know how to help their child's development in all areas.

We want parents to easily and seamlessly continue the fun from our sessions, within their home as part of day to day life.

What sets these classes apart is being based on educational standards & with well conceived & planned activities within a clear framework that clearly help with a child’s development. All the activities are so practical to follow up at home. Above all there is lots of fun & ‘play’ & socialising with others.

This can be a scary proposition for parents as we know many of you do not feel confident that you know what your child should be learning and how. This is why we want to expand parents’ knowledge so they can play with confidence, knowing they are helping their child’s learning, with ease.

At Hands-On Heads we believe in making learning fun. Throughout our sessions we use a range of fun, tailored, Hands-On characters to explain what it means to be hands-on. Each character explores a different learning action and reminds us how valuable hands-on play is between parent and child.

Peter talks a lot to remind us that oral language and talking to your kids is so valuable. In particular modelling the correct language-'Parrot them and they will Parrot you!' This lays the foundations for early literacy skills.

Kevin reminds us how valuable slowing down and taking in the sensory delights that are around us can be. Kevin encourages us to tap into our senses and expose them to lots of different experiences.

Professor Owl reminds parents of the importance of letting their child lead. This begins with O.W.L. O-Observe, W-wait and L-Listen. Professor Owl also helps parents to interpret published early education outcomes by transferring them into simple, everyday language and activities that parents can understand.

Poppy is the drama queen who loves to perform. Poppy reminds us of the importance of encouraging role-play and developing the imagination. Poppy loves to dance and especially loves to get those big and small muscles moving.

Charlie and Charlotte (Charlie) are boy and girl twin monkeys who love to be cheeky. The Cheeky Charlies are all about fun and remind us of the importance of laughter and silliness when we're playing with kids.

Elder is the warm, fuzzy grandad of the group. Elder is wise but a bit mischievous.
